Overview
What is Link fault pass through (LFPT) ?
Link Fault Pass-Through (LFPT) is a network technology feature used in Ethernet and fiber optic communication systems.
What it does
LFPT automatically propagates a link failure signal from one end of a network segment to the other. When a fault or link-down event is detected on one side of a device (like a media converter or switch), LFPT notifies the other side by bringing down its link as well.
Why it matters
Without LFPT, a device connected to a media converter might not realize there's a break in the network path, because its local link light still shows "up." This can cause:
- Traffic being sent into a broken path (black-holing)
- Failover mechanisms not triggering properly
- Delayed fault detection
With LFPT enabled, the fault is immediately visible end-to-end, allowing:
- Faster failover to redundant paths
- Accurate link state monitoring
- Proper operation of spanning tree and other protocols
Where it's commonly used
- Media converters (e.g., copper-to-fiber converters) — the most common use case
- Ethernet extenders
- WAN/carrier Ethernet equipment
- Industrial networking devices
Example scenario
[Switch A] ←copper→ [Media Converter] ←fiber→ [Media Converter] ←copper→ [Switch B]
If the fiber link breaks, LFPT causes both media converters to drop their copper-side links, so Switch A and Switch B both see a link-down event and can react accordingly (e.g., activate a backup path).
In short, LFPT ensures link failures are transparent and propagated across network boundaries where they might otherwise be hidden.

For industrial grade products, it is 3 years.
We do lifetime technical support if the models are from Olycom company.
Can I have my own packing box?
Yes, the standard packing box does have not have Chinese letters or logo.
Its fine to customize your own version like putting your logo, model name or slogans on it.
