7. What is the maximum transmission distance, and what fiber type is required?

The OSPL1G20D supports transmission distances of up to 20 kilometers over standard 9/125μm single-mode fiber using a duplex LC connector interface.

It uses a 1310nm FP laser transmitter with a link budget of up to 15dB, providing sufficient optical margin to accommodate real-world fiber plant losses including connector loss, splice loss, and cable attenuation over the full 20km span.

For installations where distances exceed 20km, we offer additional SFP variants with higher output power or EML laser transmitters capable of reaching 40km, 60km, or 80km. Please share your distance requirements and we can recommend the appropriate model.

8. Does this module support Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM)?

Yes. The OSPL1G20D is fully compliant with the SFF-8472 monitoring interface standard, which enables real-time Digital Diagnostic Monitoring directly from a compatible host switch or router.

Through DDM, network administrators can monitor key parameters including optical transmit power, received optical power, module temperature, supply voltage, and laser bias current without any additional test equipment. This allows proactive identification of potential link issues before they develop into outages.

This feature is particularly valuable in industrial deployments where physical access to installed equipment may be difficult or time-consuming, making remote link health monitoring an essential part of network maintenance.

9. Is the OSPL1G20D hot-pluggable, and which network equipment is it compatible with?

Yes, the OSPL1G20D is fully hot-pluggable, meaning it can be safely inserted or removed from a switch or router while the equipment remains powered and operational. This minimizes disruption during installation, replacement, or maintenance in environments where downtime is not acceptable.
